Where have I been?

Mary: Well that's a very good question Mr. Indiscriminant reader, let me tell you.
Mr. Indiscriminant Reader (further to be called MIR): Ooohhh, goody, I can't wait!
Mary: I've been to Europe and Florida. The topish of a mountain and around the block. Hither and tither to more music shows than I can count. Exploring by bike and boat.
MIR: ~practically dead air and oozing boredom
Mary: Let's see, then I went to ...
MIR: ~possibly snoozing, possibly looking at the horizon, possibly completely ignoring M
~break~
MIR: Why aren't we just so high on our horse, international travel, music, mountains, bikes ..
Mary: Hey, you asked!
MIR: Humph, not like I really cared .....

Why does it sometimes feel like that. People ask you a question, you expect that they want an answer, but really they are filling dead air. No response required. You could blather on about the economy of Burundi with just as much interest as if you actually answered their question.

Lately I've been coming into contact with this very attitude .... wonder what's been dropped in the water out here?
